#263 What do you expect? Psalm 62.5
My self talk chatter at 3am the other morning consisted of a variety of negative judgments, assumptions, and a strong resistance to what might happen. I kept thinking of various work and management scenarios.
“Our work comp rates will go up significantly. This will be a very bad, a hard drain on our finances.”
“I don’t WANT to talk to ________ about _______.”
“This new turn of events will be a downer to morale.”
These thoughts were interspersed with prayers to God:
“I know the battle is yours. I know the outcome is in Your hands.
I want to trust you through this and everything else.”
In the morning during my meditation on scripture time, I was struck by these thoughts:
The difference between worry and hope is: worry is expectation without God; Hope is expectation WITH God.
“My soul, wait thou only on God, for my expectation is from him.”
“My soul, wait in silence for God only, for my hope is from Him.” KJV; NASB Psalm 62:5
Observe the negative chatter in the mind. Then be awed by God, and silent in that sense of awe.
At that point we can experience Him as THE source of expectation, and therefore as our HOPE.
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
Instead of labeling a certain perceived or real outcome as BAD, why not think NEW,
in awe of God?
I wonder how He will reveal Himself to me in this experience?
I wonder what important lessons are to be learned?
I wonder what closeness and intimacy with God and Christ can be gained?
The outcome He chooses and overrules is my Treasure!
What do I expect? Maybe a better question is WHO do I expect.
I expect HIM to BE WITH ME, to lead and guide me through every challenge.
