What Great Honor

#313 What Greater Honor
This last week was especially challenging. I found strength in this meditation of heart:
I imagined Jesus asking me, “Will you accept the honor of going through this experience with me?”
In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials [NASB] This is no accident—it happens to prove your faith, which is infinitely more valuable than gold, and gold, as you know, even though it is ultimately perishable, must be purified by fire. This proving of your faith is planned to result in praise and honour and glory in the day when Jesus Christ reveals himself. [Phillips] You love him, though you have never seen him. In him, though at present you do not see him, you yet trust [Weymouth] you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, [NASB] receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of souls. [KJV]
1 Peter 1:6-9
“…I even reckon all things as pure loss because of the priceless privilege of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Philippians 3:8 Weymouth
These are the words to a song that came from these thoughts.
The Honor
Will you follow me? Will you follow me through the rivers over flowing,
through the mountain summits, through the valleys wide?
Will you accept the honor walking with me by my side?
I am with you each day, always, faithful each day as your guide.
Will you follow me? Will you follow me when you’re passing through the waters?
I am with you when you walk through fire and flame.
Will you accept the honor walking through this by my side?
I am with you each day, always, faithful each day as your guide.
Will you follow me? Will you follow me? Will you walk with me to Calvary?
Will you set your face like flint to grief and shame?
Will you accept the honor walking through this by my side?
I am with you each day, always, faithful each day as your guide.
I will follow you, I will follow you.
I will walk with you to Calvary
I will set my face like flint to grief and shame.
I will accept the honor walking through this side by side.
I know you are with me always and I choose you as my faithful guide.
“If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” Matthew 16:24
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.” Isaiah 43:1-2
“For the LORD God helps me,
Therefore I am not disgraced;
Therefore, I have set my face like flint,
And I know I shall not be ashamed.” Isaiah 50:7
“I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
