What is the point of the "Great Tribulation" if all of the Christians will be raptured?
There are several reasons for the Great Tribulation.
Now, I will explain what I believe to be a common false premise that you bring up.
There are two groups of Christians not one: The Little Flock (aka: Wheat, Wise Virgins, Elijah in type, Noah in type, the Elect, Bride of Christ, etc.) and the Great Multitude (aka: Foolish Virgins, Elisha, Lot, scapegoat, Levites etc.)
Both are Christians and both running for the “high calling”, both have the same hope—the ONE HOPE—the only hope. But both don’t get it. “As star differeth from star in glory”, there are different rewards for faithfulness or lazy faithfulness as that may be. The Apostle Paul describes the Christian journey as a race. We all run, but some run with more purpose than others.
We see in Scripture that those who are faithful are promised to be Kings and Priests, and to sit on the throne with Jesus and reign with him in the Kingdom.
When we look in Revelation about the Great Multitude—-we see they do not get that reward—they miss out on the high calling, because they allow their garments to become stained—that is they don’t clean it, so God cleans it in the Great Tribulation.
The Elect or Little Flock are taken before the Great Tribulation. You use the common word “rapture” which is not in the scriptures, but what is used is “harvest”. The “Harvest” of the Wheat class takes place before “Winter or the Sabbath”—which picture the Great Tribulation. It is still a trouble time, but not the Great Tribulation. They will be put to death by the Antichrist for standing firm for the Lord and not taking the Mark, Name or Number of the Beast.
The Great Multitude, who are not prepared to make that stand, will be deceived because of being too much aligned to the world, like Lot was. (vexed daily, but stayed in Sodom). They allowed family ties or something else to come between them and doing God’s will and so had to suffer for it. They are not taken in the “harvest”, they have to “go to the market to get the oil”, or “turned over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh” like the scapegoat. They must be cleansed in the Great Tribulation to make their robes clean in the blood of Jesus.
The Great Tribulation will the level the “Present Evil” world which Satan rules over and making it ready for the Kingdom that all Christians pray for, when Jesus reigns with his Bride. Over whom do they reign you might ask?
Also whom they mediate over as priests. Whom do they mediate between? God and who? As priests, who do they bring back into harmony with God?
What is the Kingdom we pray for? And what comes after that?
- It will destroy Babylon —that is the Antichrist system. (and all Worldly systems for that matter)
- The Great Multitude will be able to wash away the sin they allowed to stain their garments—-more on that later.
- The restoration of Israel (Dan 12:1, Zech 12, 14; Jer. 30,31 Ezek 37–39).
- The cleansing of the earth from the last vestiges of sin before Jesus will begin the Kingdom all Christians pray for.
