What is the Soul?

What do you believe the soul is?
a) The person? I have not seen a single soul since morning and i have been standing here awhile
b) The life the person enjoys? What does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his soul (life).
c) An Invisible YOU that leaves your body and continues to live.
Answer:
Depends on context.
A soul can be referring to an individual---there were 8 souls on the ark.
1Pe_3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Eze_18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
But a soul is also different than our breath and body---fear not man who can only kill the body--but fear God who can kill body and soul.
Mat_10:28 (WNT) "And do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul; but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
The soul is not an invisible force--it is like a bunch of data--what makes us, us--which needs a body and breath (electricity) to record and retrieve it. By itself it is inert. It can be compared to a DVD--just sits there without a computer and electricity, but can be put into another computer and work exactly the same--like when we get resurrected--with a body that pleases God--either celestial (if we are spirit begotten and faithful) or terrestrial ---if we are not spirit begotten--like the rest of the world. They will all get a new body in the resurrection--but they will still be who they were--just another body--soul (recording of data--memories, personality and so forth) still the same.
