When does/did Jesus Christ's reign as King of God's Kingdom start?
Just answered a question on how long Christ's reign as King will be, but that requires knowing the starting point for it!
So I want to ask for biblical evidence as to whether Christ already is appointed King of God's Kingdom, or whether that is a future event.
Answer:
Jesus was born a King, but that doesn't mean he is reigning.
Paul tells us that he is not reigning at his time:
1Co_4:8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
So, when does he reign? He reigns when his body is complete--that is when his bride is complete and the wedding has taken place.
Psa_149:9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
Rev_5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
2Ti 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
So now we have a time frame to work in, it is in the End Times. We are in the End Times, now, and there are still a lot of events to happen, so exactly when needs to be determined.
Daniel gives us one clue with the image: (first the image has to be destroyed--that is earthly governments will be destroyed)
Dan_2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
So when will God make a full end of these nations? You need to understand the whole chapter of Jeremiah 30 to get the events. But basically this is what is called Jacob's Trouble (aka Gog from Magog) This is the very end of the Great Time of Trouble since there was a nation. There are actually a ton of scriptures that describe this time period--we see it is after this that there is a "Peace be still", and no more defilement. (see Isa. 4:3, Zech 12, 14, Joel, Ezekiel 37-end) Ezekiel shows that right after the invasion by Gog and they are destroyed that God will set up a holy Temple and all nations will flow to it.
Jer 30:11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
God says to Jesus to sit down until that time. (A study of Dan 11, we see that the term stand up is synonymous with taking power and reigning.)
Psa_110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Mat_22:44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Mar_12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
So, Jesus won't be sitting when he reigns.
I know Dan 12:1 is a sticking point for many, but looking objectively on it--why does it sound exactly like these other scriptures?
Zec 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
Zec 12:8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
Joe 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. 16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. 17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
The reign of Jesus and his bride is a thousand years, aka the Millennium, the Day of the Lord.
2Pe_3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Rev_20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
After that we are not told what we will be doing.
