Wisdom Out of the Whirlwind

#307 Wisdom Out of the Whirlwind Job 38.1
“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind….” Job 38:1
When I have my strong opinions and perceptions before God I need to listen to the LORD as He answers me out of the whirlwind of the storm that threatens to level my world.
And when He reveals Himself and I remember Who He Is, it does level the opinions and fears of my world, and in its place is reverence and awe.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?” Job 38:2
"Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? New Living Translation
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? English Standard Version
"Who is this that belittles my advice with words that do not show any knowledge [about it]? GOD'S WORD Translation
“Now gird up your loins like a man, and I will ask you, and you instruct Me!
Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth….” Job 38:2-4
The LORD continues to ask question after question: Job38:8,9; 12, 19, 31, 34, 39:26 Tenakh
Who closed the sea behind doors when it gushed forth out of the womb…
and said, “You may come so far and no farther; Here your surging waves will stop.”
Have you ever commanded the day to break…
Where is the way to the dwelling of light….NASB
Can you tie cords to the Pleiades or undo the reins of Orion?
Can you send up an order to the clouds for an abundance of water to cover you?
Do you give the horse his strength?
Is it by your understanding that the hawk soars, stretching his wings toward the south?” NASB
Question after question shows Job Who God Is.
Brought face to face with the majesty of God, Job’s little chatterbox voice is silenced, as is ours.
“Behold, I am insignificant, what can I reply to Thee?
I lay my hand on my mouth.
Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; even twice, and I will add no more.” Job 40:3
Job’s final answer is recorded in Job 42:2-6. And in his words are the elements of wisdom that come from the fear and reverence of the LORD. Psalms 111:10
Aware of the great power and majesty of our God
“I know that You can do everything, That nothing You purpose is impossible for You.
Admit that it is OUR limited view of things that obscures our ability to understand.
Who is this who obscures counsel without knowledge?
Admit that we may not have a clue even though we think we know.
Indeed, I spoke without understanding
Of things beyond me, which I did not know.
Know He hears.
Hear now, and I will speak;
Know He will respond to our need for guidance.
I will ask, and You will inform me.
Pray to understand and perceive Him ever more deeply.
I had heard You with my ears,
But now I see You with my eyes;
We take back our stubborn shortsighted perceptions,
realizing how small we are, and how Holy and Majestic He is.
Therefore, I recant and relent, being but dust and ashes.” Tenakh Job 42:2-5
